Stories of Hope

My name is David, I am 25 years old from Bwaise. I was deep into marijuana and miraa, dropped out of university, and even started petty crime to feed my addiction. The Rise Together outreach team from Voices of Recovery met me on the streets. They gave me harm-reduction support, mentorship, and tailoring skills training. I have now been sober for over a year. I run my own small tailoring business and speak to young people during community sensitization events. Voices of Recovery helped me break the cycle and gave me back my future.

My name is John, I am 32 years old from Kampala. For more than 10 years, alcohol and drugs controlled my life. I lost my job, my family abandoned me, and I ended up living on the streets. One day in 2024, the Voices of Recovery outreach team found me in Kisenyi. I joined their Echoes of Hope program. Through weekly listening circles, peer mentoring, and life-skills training, I slowly regained my strength. Today, I have been clean for 18 months. I regained custody of my daughter, completed welding training, and now run my own small workshop. I even volunteer as a peer mentor to help others. Voices of Recovery gave me back my life.
